Look Mom, no tonsils (or adenoids)!
McKenzie had her tonsils and adenoids removed this morning. She had recurrent bouts of Strep Throat last Winter so we decided to follow the Dr's advice to have the T&A done. She did really well. She walked in like a big girl, sat in the chair and waited for instructions. The Nurse Anesthetist came in to see her and told her they had "flavored" gas to put her to sleep. McKenzie opted for "Watermelon". The nurse gave her some Versed and in almost no time she was loopy! Before they came to get her to take her to the OR she started reaching for "things coming out of the wall"! It was funny but sad at the same time. She couldn't understand why she couldn't reach them. They took her back in a red wagon that she was almost too big for. Thirty minutes later the Dr. came out and told us that she did great. It took about another 1/2 hour before they let us back to see her. She immediately began eating grape popsicles and drinking Gatorade. Finally at 11:30am they dismissed us to come home. She's propped up on pillows on the sofa watching movies/cartoons and sipping more Gatorade. We couldn't have asked for her to have done any better! She is such a trooper. Not once did she even cry this morning and the only time she got a little anxious was when the nurse went to take out the IV site. She was afraid it was going to hurt.
